Medicaid Alternative Pathways (MAPS)

At Core Services of Northeast Tennessee, we are proud to be a provider of Medicaid Alternative Pathways to Independence (MAPs), a transformative program designed to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) prepare for more independent and fulfilling lives

What is MAPs?

MAPs (Medicaid Alternative Pathways to Independence) supports people with I/DD in building the skills they need to:

  • Find and maintain employment

  • Live more independently

  • Explore and engage in their communities

  • Discover personal interests and hobbies

Through MAPs, participants receive individualized tools, supports, and enabling technology to help them pursue their own goals and make informed life choices.

Who is eligible?

MAPs is available to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Have an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD)

  • Have graduated from high school or are expected to graduate within the next three years

  • Are not currently enrolled in another long-term services and supports program, including:

    • ECF CHOICES

    • CHOICES

    • Katie Beckett Program

    • 1915(c) Waivers

Meet the Team!

Hannah Sheppard
Lead Coordinator, MAPs Program

Hannah Sheppard joined Core Services as the MAPs Lead after years of experience with Direct Support of individuals with IDD, case management, and service coordination. She is a certified Motivational Interviewer, CPR/AED Certified, and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Hannah is known best for her passion for inclusion and advocacy, karaoke skills, bowling attempts, and love of her two dogs, Mabel and Lewie.

Gail Evans

MAPs Coordinator, MAPs Program

Gail Evans is a MAPs Coordinator for the MAPs Program at Core Services.  Gail’s work history includes 30 plus years of work experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, and as a Pre-Employment Transition Specialist for the State of Tennessee.  Gail is committed to working with individuals to help them increase their independence at home, at work, and in the community.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and going to the beach.  Core Services supports individuals in creating the life they desire.  We would love to have you join our MAPs Program.
